So last week we dedicated our Thursday to our project development and production and so there was no blog assignment. This week please visit these 3 web sites and comment on each of them. Your comments should include analysis, something you found interesting, something you learned that you did not know before, and/or something that you might be able to use for your project.

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America
A very interesting website and nothing but positive ideas on how to spread the message and knowledge that drugs are harmful and helps inform those about not using them. This excerpt is from the website and I could not agree more with it: "One of the best ways to get the word out is through media channels, such as TV, radio, newspapers and the internet. However, these channels are changing and we need to know how to use all of the new resources to the best of our abilities. With the rise of blogs, and social networking sites such as MySpace, Twitter and Facebook, we have the ability to reach more people than ever before." They also have streaming and live shows which can be viewed on satellite TV and are webcasted live at www.MCTFT.com and at www.cadca.org.
www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org
Though I thought it was possible, I was not aware of such a website. It is based on the Alliance Project called "The Face of Recovery." They plan national gatherings and surveys for the recovery communities. Some of the key elements included in this group include the celebration and honor the recovery of all diversities, advocacy skills movements, and production of principles, strategies and leadership skills to maintain its movement alive.
www.jointogether.org
This website provides all kind of drug addiction and rehabilitation program funding. They stated that only 15 percent of their entire budgets on substance abuse and addiction and its consequences. It also states that "for every dollar states spend on this problem, 94 cents goes to "shovel up" the consequences in public programs such as health care, criminal justice, education, child welfare and mental health -- and only about 2 pennies go to prevention, treatment and research programs to reduce this burden. This upside-down public policy wastes billions in taxpayer dollars at a time when resources are scarce, and results in untold human suffering." The site also insists on taking action to help provide more funding for such programs. It is very useful tool on how to help curtail the mis-management of our tax dollars and help the organizations that benefit us the most.
The information provided by the websites may add more content the 10 page report we must provide for the project.
Faces & Voices: The one thing that I found interesting is that the financial aid was restored to all students with prior drug convictions. That’s an opportunity of a lifetime. Talking about one’s recovery and not just addiction is a path to show our society that it can happen with the support of family, friends and organizations like this one. Faces & Voices is trying to show us that these individuals can have a normal and better life too.
Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America: I didn’t know that CADCA is the link (pillar) between our communities and the nation’s anti drug movement. Motivating the community to get involved is their objective, such as, recruiting members and implementing a strong strategic planning. This seems to be like a kickoff or on your mark get set, go!
Join Together: Should’ve read this before reading the previous ones. So discouraged! This is a prevention and treatment organization that unfortunately receives approximately 2 cents towards their program while other public entities receive 98 cents. I saw the graph that shows what Florida spends on prevention and it’s truly sad. I still think that supporting an individual who has a drug problem is the first and most important step to rehabilitation; but how can we prevent this mess we’re in? This is something I would definitely advocate for – Funds Towards Prevention.
I agree with Joel as it relates to helping us with our project. Drug usage is a big problem and there's also so much to look into. I think that society as a whole is trying to focus on the sources to the problem and it's solutions, the individuals' outcome measures, etc.
I must say that the organization that truly caught my interest was cadca.org. Well, for starters, their focus falls upon the youths who struggle with substance abuse and those that may fall within the clutches of substance abuse. This organization is all about motivating and organizing communities to aid our youths. Plus, after analyzing this organization's site, I was able to gather some information to utilize for my class presentation. Most importantly, it was heartwarming to know that this organization shifts its focus over to our veterans. I, as a present veteran, am glad to see that an organization places an emphasis on young returning veterans that may fall victim to substance abuse because of the traumatic events they may have experienced. So, this site was not only helpful and informative, I found it to be kind to our vets.
As far as the other sites such as facesandvoicesofrecovery.org and jointogether.org, I believe that they each presented their concerns effectively. However, one of these caught my interest, somewhat like cadca.org did. While looking through jointogether.org, I came across a very interesting article about binge drinking. Reading this article led me to subscribe to a site which contained a newly published journal about Addiction. I believe such journal will be useful for my class presentation.
Join together a very interesting website in which they show how the community could get involved and helped those with addictions, I saw that it give some statistics, the key issues, I did not know that states can use policies from the blueprint for the states report to improve the ways they organize and deliver alcohol and drug prevention and treatment.
faces and voices of recovery is a very powerful page that I did not know about it, this page can be shown to those who are still using drugs, they will realize that there still are peole who are willing to help and give support.
CADCA great webpage where once again you see community involved along with the members of this program. also we can observed very positive comments and thei way to spread the fact that drus ar a bad choice in anyone's life.
I agree with joel very good sources for our projects.
All websites: I didn’t know these websites existed, I mean I figured they did but never took the time to go look for them. I’m very happy that there are websites to help people start and stay sober. The only other form I knew was AA meetings for the alcoholics or people who believe they are at the brink of becoming an alcoholic. Same type of meetings for drug users as well and of course rehab. No I haven’t been sheltered all my life, trust me, but I just never took the time to search, never felt I had the need to.
CADCA site is a great site to get involved in the fight and prevention of drug and alcohol use in your community. All of our communities need to be aware of the use.
Faces and voices site is where recovering addicts can come together and receive and maybe give support to others who are on the same boat.
Join together site is also a great site because it helps to advance drug/alcohol prevention and treatments. The site fights for our taxes to be put to better use by directing the funds to better treatments and preventions. New drugs are being tested as we speak but they are not well funded as was said on the site; “This upside-down public policy wastes billions in taxpayer dollars at a time when resources are scarce”
All three websites are good sources of info for our projects. We can all learn something from each website and use it to our advantage. I’m sure we all have a friend or family member that could use these sources to get help or to see that there is help out there when they are ready to get it. I know it’s hard to get involved with organizations like this cause, you start to think like “well do I have time for this” and “how involved do I get? Should I go to trainings and such?” Just making a donation helps more than we all expect.
I agree with Joel, we need to know how to use our resources to our advantage and to reach out to people. For example, I figured there were websites like these but I never took advantage of the internet in that way to actually search for them. I can only imagine how many other sites and organizations are out there that many of us don’t know exist nor do we know how much they may help our community.
I agree with Y. Marte. I, too, found that facesandvoicesofrecovery.org was providing a great service to our youths and adults opting for a change of habit. Before, this organization came along, it was quite sad to see how lawmakers were unwilling to give people with prior drug convictions a chance to better their lives by enhancing their education. But, it is heartwarmning to know that this organization opened such doors to youths and adults striving for a change.
www.cadca.org- I thought this site was amazing and I think it's great that its mission is to encourage a drug free environment. The program has members of diverse areas of specialties and utilizes the tools available to them to spread the word as well as accomplish their goal of maintaining a drug free environment.
www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org- The mission of this program is to change the way people view recovery and to help promote the recovery of drug addicts all across America. I found it interesting that they offer trainings and events to assist in promoting their mission and achieving their goals.
www.jointogether.org- This program talks about the consequences of drug abuse on our economy as well as the people in our lives. It also explains that addiction is possible to prevent and overcome while taking into consideration the experience of individuals from all different fields. The goal here is to keep Americans drug free. The website also features headlines of major news regarding the issues of preventing the use of drugs as well as treating addiction.
I agree with Shantell that all 3 websites are beneficial to assisting with our projects. We can definitely learn a great deal of information about ourselves as well as the people around us. The websites provide a multitude of information regarding statistics and events that contribute to accomplishing the goal of a drug free environment.
Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America is a very good site that provides good ideas on how to spread the word out that drug are harmful. It is also helps inform those about not using drugs and benefits. I could not agree more with this website that “One of the best ways to get the word out is through media channels, such as TV, radio, newspapers and the internet. However, there are new up and coming ways to spread the word out with the rise of blogs, and social networking sites such as MySpace, Twitter and Face book, we have the ability to reach more people than ever before."
Faces and voices site is where formal addicts can come together and receive and maybe give support to others who are on the same boat with them. It’s almost like a consulting group to help each other out. The site also talks about putting our tax payer dollars to better use, as far as constructing prevention programs. New drugs are being tested as we speak but they are not well funded as was said on the site; “This upside-down public policy wastes billions in taxpayer dollars at a time when resources are scarce”
Join together is a site in which they provide information to the public on helping eliminate and decreasing drugs addition, it also provides statistics, key issues. Something new I learn is that states can use policies from the blueprint for the states report to improve the ways they organize and deliver alcohol and drug prevention and treatment.
i agree with joel that the information found on this websit will be very helpful with our 10 page paper
I didn't know about these website and I think that specially WWW.CADCA.ORG is a very interesting one. I think it has great ideas about how to inform people and help them to avoid using drugs.
WWW.FACESANDVOICESOFRECOVERY.ORG is also a grest page that can help people to understand that they are not alone and to help them recover.
And WWW.JOINTOGETHER.ORG is showing all kind of drug addiction and the different rehabilitation programs.
I agree with Joel, all the three websites are really good with very interesting informations that can be use in our projects.
WWW.CADCA.ORG:
I think this website is great on informing people about drugs. WWW.FACESANDVOICESOFRECOVERY.ORG
I think this website is great on informing drug addicts they are not alone.
I think this is a great webcite because it focuses on informing about rehab programs.
I agree with yiliam. The join together website is a great website for the community. All three of these websites are good sources for our project.
I think all three websites are a good positive effort to aid the problem of drug and alcohol addiction. www.cadca.org was very informative in giving statistics; Reach out to youths, informing them on the risks of using drugs and giving good prevention strategies. www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org is very supportive to alcoholics and drug addicts, Gives them hope and inspiration.www.jointogether.org looks at the issue from a larger perspective. Sees the solution of addiction as a community effort and looks at the overall long term goal. I thought it was interesting how each website approaches the issue from a different angle. The more different approaches to this problem the more weapons toward fighting this ongoing, never ending battle.
Of all three websites the one that most interest me was “JOIN TOGETHER.ORG” I had no idea that they were actually really helping these juveniles in the US. For example, I was reading the article named “Second Chance Juvenile Mentoring Initiative” it mentions how mentoring and transitional services for youths involved in the criminal-justice system will be funded under the U.S. Justice Department's Second Chance Juvenile Mentoring Initiative. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will make grants of up to $625,000 for three years to support evidence-based programs that "match mentoring pairs during the youth¹s confinement and end with successful community reintegration, evidenced by lack of recidivism." I would have to say that helping juveniles is my passion. If no one does anything about them then who will? Working with juveniles should be a main priority because they are the ones that are going to make out future.
In the website CADCA.ORG I found very interesting the information on BINGE DRINKING. I had no idea while reading this article that “The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) recently defined binge drinking as a drinking pattern that brings a person’s BAC to greater than 0.08 grams per deciliter (g/dL), which is a level accompanied by significant physical and mental impairment and the level currently used to define drunk driving throughout the U.S. Typically, this means five drinks for a man or four drinks for a woman within a two-hour period.” This paragraph really informed me well on binge drinking.
In the website Facesandvoicesofrecovery.org the article on THE RECOVERY BILL OF RIGHTS” was interesting because knowing that we do have the right to recover from addictions and drugs it actually helps me to believe that there is HOPE out there for some people!
I would have to say that I agree with Shantell "its good to know that these websites exist and people can actually find out ways to stay sober."
www.jointogether.org
I agree with joel, i did read the part where it says only 2pennies go to prevention, treatment and research to reduce the burden of drug addiction. Its sad that with all the major problems in society that have such a big impact in our everyday lives, such as drugs and alcohol we fail to address the problem.
www.cadca.org
what i found interesting in this website was in one paragraph that states that alcohol abuse kills approximatley 100,00 americans every year and is the third preventable cause of death in the U.S
faces and voices
This website is amazing because its focus is mainly on the recovery of drug addicts and giving them hope that their lives can become better. once the addicts recover from their addictions they become advocates to someday help those who are also in need of treatment.....and i did not know they were part of restoring students financial aid who had prior drug convictions.
www.cadca.org
The Community AntiDrug Coalitions of America is an organization focusing on drug prevention. It covers many areas including drug abuse in a healthcare perspestive. One of the the objectives is to have a legislation included in the next healthcare reforms in the United States.Building a drug free community is also another ultimate objective of this organization. I did not know that this organization was on face book, major baseball league:pretty cool... There is an institute offering free technical assistance training and resources for the commmunity.
www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org
This organization is focused much more on the recovery community by giving the opportunity to people to tell their story, campaign, and advocate for the cause. It develops interesting programs such as Run and Recovery for the Children, and recovery and Treatment. The organization rewards those who get involved( Joel Hernandez), It is on face book, opportunity to be a member. the recovery Bill of Rights( I did not know that) may be very hepful in doing my project.
Compared to the two previous websites, jointogether is taking a political orientation when it is offering a debate on the impact of substances abuse on the federal, state and local government. It focuses on prevention and treatmennt in an advanced way for drugs and alcohol policy. I did not know that Obama's first drug budget fails to shift priorities. But what is interesting is the organization is offering a free continuing educationn credit program online. This website can be useful in a criminal justice perspective: OJJDP, Second Chance Juvenile Mentoring Initiative, Drug Policy Alliance Advocay Grants.
In fact, the three websites are really helpful in the study of Narcotics and Dangerous Substances, especially because they have their own online publications.
Y Marte,
I trully understand how sympathetic you are to the problem of funding of organizations that are really devoted to the drug- community - related problems. But,to get what we want for our communities we have to stand up , get out in the streets to show to the federal , state, and local governments our nonsatisfaction about how they provide subvention to the working organizations on the drug issue. It belongs to students, professors, scholars, church, media, universities and colleges to raise their voices if they really want to remedy to that social phenomenon.
Keep thinking positively.
Unaware of the websites that was posted for us to review, I am very please to learn some of the things I read. Educated enough to know there are sites out there in computer land for one to find and do research is endless nowadays.
I liked how the CADCA site was fresh and young looking. The info was endless.
Faces&voicesofrecovery had an exceptional page and has an event that recognizes an organization that provide excellent service thru ouot the year, which in turns motivates other organizations to strive forthe same Hernandez award.
Join2gether seems to be a very active organization because outside of the cause they fight for they organize fun events to help promote awareness and involve the younger crowd who can be easily influence into the wrong thing.
All the sites were very educational to me because even though I'm aware of the drug & substance abuse world I was not informed as I can now say I am to inform others.
Wow!!! I'm glad I got the channce to learn about these three web sites, they had lots of good information I can use for my project. The web sites were also beneficial in finding a cause or a solution for people who really wants to get off drugs.
I a gree with Joel the web site has nothing but positive ideas and it is also benificail to drug abusers
I agree with Shontel the web site is a for good program to get involve with to shoe our support.
http://www.cadca.org/
I found this web site very helpful and interesting because since I don’t get out much I really don’t know much about programs and communities that help keep my own personal surroundings safe and up to date with drug information and crime rates. I will definitely use this web site to keep updated and maybe even donate some money to help out!
http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/
This web site would be mostly used by addicts or people that are trying to clean themselves or straighten up their life. I’m glad that there are many associations like these that care and help for the needy and for the desperate. One thing that I really found interesting is the fact that their main goal to acknowledge and congratulate the ones that fail and the ones that succeed! Many of us don’t ever give any credit to the failures just to the winners and that’s not the smartest and nicest thing a person can do!
http://www.jointogether.org/
This website is very effective when it comes to informing you of the latest drugs hitting the streets and how law enforcement and science is trying to prevent epidemics and outbreaks. You can also donate to help with the studies and organizations. According to this web site Florida has one of the worst treatment and prevention programs because of the lack of effort and money. Only two pennies of every ninety four pennies actually go to prevention and treatment! That’s horrible!
I agree with Joel because these web sites are doing an outstanding job spreading information and knowledge when it comes to drugs, treatment, rehab, and studies!
All of the sites are interesting; however, cadca.org was the most interesting to me because they are trying to help addicts as youths before they become adults. Majority of our children today are the big drug and alcohol users, which is very sad. Therefore, if we as a community, family and friends can help maybe this will cut down on the deaths and crime rates. Faces & voices and join together were interesting as well, but I did not get the full affect as I did with cadca.org. I think that if money is going to be used to help with drug addiction treatment, it should be used on those who are seriously ready to be cured, and not those that are unsure. We are going through a recession right now, and we as tax payers don't have money to be wast4ed.
I agree with christine and joel, these websites are very beneficial with encouraging addicts to actually realize that they have a problem and these websites give them a solution and then addicts can become advocates in helping others.
http://www.cadca.org/
this website i found to be very interesting because people or the majority of them are not aware of programs like this one that help keep their community safe and up to date with drug and the crime rate rate. now a days it's good to be informed and aware of your surrounding. this website i found it to be helpful to me because up to today i wasn't aware of
programs. i think it would be great if the community were i live can maybe set up a fund raiser to help to program up.http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/
this website is great because finally their is a program designed to help addict and honor them in recovery and their accomplishments. Ive learn now that finally some help and encouragement is being given to help individual with their terrible addiction and not just ignore them as the exile of society that other people find them to be http://www.jointogether.org/
i found this website to be very interesting because i wasn't aware that not that much goes in trying to set up programs and prevention for individual because of lack of effort or money Florida is the worst sate when it comes to this. i found this website hopeful because it informs you of the late drug and what law enforcement are doing to help, but Florida needs to step it up and give a little more effort.
i would have to agree with Joel, these website are really keeping us informed and programs and organization are stepping up helping poor individuals out. i think if we contribute a little to this great cause to this cause maybe the percent of drug here in America and people consuming it can go down.
www.cadca.org is a website that helps build drug-free comunities. I think it is very good to at least try to clean up communities. Maybe one day drugs can be eliminated once and for all. I liked the fact that cadca is trying to get drug prevention in healthcare. The only thing that I didn't like, was that there weren't many coalition related events planned on the website's calender.
www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org is a website committed to organizing and mobilizing people with long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol. They have alot of organizations that are founding members and i think it is great that there are so many founders because when people are addicted, they need as much support and help that they can get.
www.jointogether.org is "the only nationwide organization that brings together under one roof all the professional things needed to study abuse of all substances." It's a good site because it teaches you the expenses of drugs and alcohol. Maybe if people realize how much money they throw away on drugs and alcohol, they might stop.
I would have to agree with Chris and Joel. These websites have alot of information to help people with drug and alcohol problems. They will also be useful for our projects.
I think www.cadca.org it’s a great website that could benefit our community. This is the first time I look into this kind of website n I found a lot of interesting things. CADCA is an organization that works together with other partners to find solutions to one of our biggest problems in the community. Their goal is to create and maintain a safe healthy and drug-free community. They are even in facebook now.
Faces & Voices of Recovery it’s an amazing website. This website helps people that need help on their addictions to find everything they need to recover. This website has helped thousands of people to recover.
They even have The Recovery Bill of Rights witch is a statement of the principle that all Americans have a right to recover from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
www.jointogether.org is again a very informative website. It keeps us updated with daily information about all tobacco, drugs and alcohol issues. It was really interesting to learn how they help to make more effective policies. Also I learned how the state spends over 15 percent of their entire budgets on substance abuse and addiction and its consequences.
I must agree with Marotta. I think all of the three websites are great for this community. we schould have more websites like this.
I agree with Melissa Gonzalez
I felt that each one of the sites serves a major role in was on drugs. More money should be placed behind organization such as this any many like them. The organizations are here to help and the government should take advantage of the opportunity to really make a difference in with country and or so called war on drugs. I also learned that grants are given out for preventing and reducing the rate of underage alcohol consumption, including binge drinking, among students at institutions of higher education (IHEs), on campuses and in surrounding communities by the website: www.cadca.org. My cousin and I have started our own non-profit organization and we could really use that type of assistance.
i believe that on the cadca.org website they are really trying to target all sorts of age groups with their drug prevention strategies. the fact that they made a facebook page about their drug prevention shows that they are really trying to reach out since most adolescent have a facebook account.on the faces of recovery website, they are most focused on the actual drug addict recoverees. and to some this might prove extremely beneficial. some people like to have their share of the spot light and this website is showing a positive reinforcement on recovering addicts.on the jointogether website they focus more on the monetary point of view to this. it clearly shows that they are not spending the money correctly. it is almost as if though an addict has to hit rock bottom before getting help. i believe more money should be wasted on actually preventing people from using drugs as aposed to waiting until they already started.
i agree with marotta, there should definitely be more websites like these to help our communities, and they should definitely receive more publicity than they do
